Outdoor Play and Learning
(OPAL) at Our School

At our school, we are proud to be part of the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme, which enriches children’s playtimes with a wide variety of active and creative opportunities. Every lunchtime, pupils can choose from an exciting range of activities designed to promote physical activity, social interaction and imaginative play. These include:
-
Hoola hooping and skipping to build coordination, stamina and rhythm
-
Music and dancing to encourage expression and joyful, energetic movement
-
Dressing up to spark creativity, storytelling and role-play
-
Scooters for confidence, balance and gross motor development
-
Construction zones where children work together, problem-solve and make shared creations
These active, inclusive playtimes help children develop confidence, resilience and strong relationships, while also supporting their wellbeing and physical health.
Our Commitment to Outdoor Learning
In addition to OPAL playtimes, we are committed to providing rich outdoor learning experiences every week through sessions withOutdoor Elliott. During these sessions, children take part in hands-on activities that strengthen:
-
Communication skills through discussion, questioning and collaborative challenges
-
Team building as they work together to solve problems and complete tasks
-
Physical development by moving, exploring and working in the natural environment
These weekly outdoor learning opportunities help children build essential life skills while nurturing a love of nature and the outdoors.
